Highway 3 Accident Today: Cranbrook Woman Killed in Saturday Crash

Highway 3 Accident Today Fernie, British Columbia — A Cranbrook woman has died following a serious traffic collision on Highway 3 in the Fernie area on Saturday, February 14, 2026, the Elk Valley RCMP confirmed in a statement Sunday.

According to RCMP officials, emergency responders were dispatched shortly after late‑afternoon reports of a multi‑vehicle crash along the busy east–west corridor. The collision occurred on Highway 3 — a key provincial route linking communities across the southeast region of the province — under conditions that remain under investigation.

When officers and first responders arrived at the scene, they found a woman from Cranbrook with life‑threatening injuries. Despite efforts by emergency crews, she was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP have not yet released her name pending notification of next of kin, but confirmed she was the sole fatality in the collision.

Traffic on Highway 3 was disrupted for several hours as police, firefighters and paramedics worked to secure the scene, investigate the crash and clear debris. Motorists were advised to expect delays and were directed to use caution as conditions remain winter‑like on many stretches of the route.

The Elk Valley RCMP Major Crash Investigator Unit has taken over the inquiry into the cause of the collision, which may include road conditions, vehicle speeds and other contributing factors. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash‑cam footage to contact the Fernie RCMP detachment to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Local community leaders expressed condolences to the victim’s family and friends on social media and in public statements, describing the loss as “devastating” for those close to her and for the broader southeast B.C. community.

“Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the woman who died in yesterday’s tragic collision on Highway 3,” Elk Valley officials said. “We encourage all motorists to drive with caution as winter conditions continue to affect road safety across the region.”

This remains a developing situation. Additional details, including the identity of the deceased and contributing circumstances, will be released as they become available from RCMP and emergency response authorities.
